Valensole 1965: the object in the lavender field and the traces recorded by the gendarmes

What happened

At dawn on July 1, 1965, a farmer reported having seen a dark object resting in his lavender field and two small figures climbing back into it before takeoff in the direction of Manosque; marks remained on the ground at the site, star-shaped with a hole in the center. The gendarmerie heard the witness, drew up an official report of findings with measurements and photographs, and found no other witnesses or other clues. GEPAN, created in 1977, did not conduct an investigation of its own; in 2015 GEIPAN made the three reports public and classified the case “D” (unidentified) “by default,” given its strangeness.
