Malmstrom and Minot, November 1975: lights over the missile sites in the NORAD logs

Malmstrom Air Force Base and missile field, Montana (and Minot radar station, North Dakota) · United States · Nov 1975

In flight Military witnesses

Unexplained

What happened
In the weeks following the Loring and Wurtsmith episodes, personnel at Malmstrom base and at the Montana missile sites reported lights and unidentified objects; NORAD scrambled interceptor fighters that were unable to identify anything. The log of the director of the NORAD 24th Region notes on November 10 the report from the Minot radar station: a luminous star-like object at 1,000–2,000 feet, silent, seen by three people. On November 11 a NORAD message cited sightings by military personnel at Loring, Wurtsmith, Malmstrom, Minot and the Canadian station at Falconbridge; part of the documents was released to The Black Vault in 1997 (FOIA case 97-F-1677).
Proposed explanation
The documents released do not report an identification: the NORAD message of November 11, 1975 summarizes the reports as suspicious unknown air activity without attributing them to a cause.
