El Bosque 2010: the object filmed at the Chilean Air Force ceremony
El Bosque Air Base, Santiago, Chile · Chile · Nov 4, 2010
In flight Mixed witness types Video
Unexplained
- What happened
- On November 4, 2010, during the change-of-command ceremony of the commander in chief of the Chilean Air Force at El Bosque air base, in the presence of President Sebastián Piñera, several video cameras filmed, near the aircraft of the “Halcones” aerobatic team, a small, very fast object that none of those present noticed. CEFAA, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation committee led by retired general Ricardo Bermúdez, collected seven recordings from different positions, consulted image experts and astronomers and ruled out meteorites, space debris, birds and aircraft. Bermúdez presented the case as unidentified at a UFO congress in the United States in February 2012.
- Proposed explanation
- Users of the Above Top Secret forum and the skeptic Tim Printy proposed an insect passing close to the lens (or a bird or a small balloon); CEFAA considers the hypothesis incompatible with footage shot from different viewpoints, and some entomologists consulted by the journalist Leslie Kean judged it unlikely.
- Official investigation
- DGAC – Committee for the Study of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena (CEFAA)
