Collahuasi 2013: the disc photographed by miners and assessed by CEFAA

Collahuasi mine, Tarapacá Region · Chile · Apr 2013

In flight Civilian witnesses Photos

Unexplained

What happened
In April 2013, a group of about 35 workers at the Collahuasi copper mine in northern Chile observed for over an hour and photographed an object described as a silvery disc about ten meters across that moved vertically and horizontally without making noise. The images reached CEFAA at the beginning of 2014; in July 2014 the director Ricardo Bermúdez stated that the object did not correspond to anything known and the committee published the photos on its website. The case is one of the few sightings, about 3% according to the agency, officially recognized in Chile as unidentified.
Proposed explanation
CEFAA ruled out weather phenomena, drones, experimental aircraft, sounding balloons and military exercises; no independent analyses of the images appear to have been published.
Official investigation
DGAC – Committee for the Study of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena (CEFAA)
