Pantex: a diamond-shaped object flies over the nuclear weapons plant
Pantex Plant, near Amarillo, Texas · United States · Sep 1, 2015
In flight Police Radar Video
Unexplained
- What happened
- On September 1, 2015, at about 7:10 a.m., the ground surveillance radar of the Pantex plant detected an unknown object moving north at 10–15 miles per hour to the west of the facilities; the protective force officers observed it with binoculars and with the camera of an armored vehicle at 100–200 feet of altitude and described it as a silent diamond about 4 feet tall, with no visible propulsion, with inconsistently reported colors. The gates were closed, the Carson County sheriff was notified, and the object was followed for a few miles outside the site until it was lost. The video from the radar tower was sent to the Sandia National Laboratories and the evidence to the FBI; the report was published in 2026 in the PURSUE series. The transmittal letter places the episode on September 2, 2015.
- Proposed explanation
- The report does not propose an identification: the object was handled according to the response plan for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The Department of Defense (now the Department of War) published it in 2026 among the historical documents of the PURSUE program, without an updated assessment.
