Cheyenne Mountain: five soldiers see a motionless white object

Cheyenne Mountain, observed from Fort Carson (Colorado Springs), Colorado · United States · Feb 15, 2022

In flight Military witnesses

Unexplained

What happened
On February 15, 2022, five Army soldiers at Fort Carson saw above Cheyenne Mountain, about six miles away, an opalescent white “potato”-shaped object made of irregular panels, stationary and silent for a time that the accounts put between half a minute and a few minutes, then vanished suddenly. In 2024 and 2025 the FBI interviewed witnesses and produced a reconstruction drawing; the accounts differ on the time (from morning to early afternoon). Reported to AARO, the case was published in June 2026 in the third PURSUE series as unresolved.
Proposed explanation
The Department of War publishes it as an unresolved case (“Unresolved UAP Report”) and, according to CBS News, the case remains unresolved despite the analysis. An intelligence analysis published in the PURSUE files considers possible, with low confidence, backscattering of sunlight reflected from snow onto low clouds, noting that the weather reports indicated cloud cover and that no aircraft or balloon was recorded as active in the area. The witnesses described a clear sky to the FBI.
Official investigation
FBI (interviews and graphic reconstruction); an intelligence community agency (analysis); AARO/PURSUE (2026 release)
