Unexplained

What happened
On November 11, 1975, the commander in chief of NORAD, in a message about the intrusions of suspicious objects recorded since October 28 over Strategic Air Command bases, also cited the sightings by personnel of the Canadian radar station at Falconbridge. According to the NORAD report cited by the researcher Raymond Fowler, the station detected with its search and height-finding radars an object 25–30 nautical miles to the south, between 26,000 and 72,000 feet, which through binoculars appeared as a sphere; helicopters and F-106 fighters were unable to identify it. A NORAD communiqué of November 13 confirmed the takeoff of two Air National Guard F-106s from Selfridge (Michigan), without contact. The original texts, obtained through FOIA and published by Larry Fawcett and Barry Greenwood in the book “Clear Intent” (1984), were not found in an official online archive.
Proposed explanation
No official explanation appears to have been published. Among the explanations proposed for the sightings, Venus, clouds or weather balloons have been suggested (according to the Wikipedia entry, which cites “The Canadian UFO Report” by Chris Rutkowski and Geoff Dittman, 2006).
