Official position · S-007
In a memorandum for the record of late December 2017, later made public through FOIA, Garry Reid wrote that Elizondo, at OUSD(I) from September 2008 to October 2017, had exaggerated his role in the program and that, as far as he knew, he had no duties related to AATIP, which ended in 2012. He also reported that he had found no corroboration for Elizondo's claim to have been secretly tasked by the Secretary of Defense.

AATIP and AAWSAP
What it denies and what it leaves open
It disputes the role claimed by Elizondo in AATIP; it is an official's internal assessment, not the outcome of an investigation, and it does not concern the existence of phenomena or retrieval programs.
- Original words
has aggrandized his role in the program
- Who disputes it
- Elizondo maintains that he led AATIP until his resignation; in 2021 former Senator Harry Reid wrote that he could attest to his leadership role, and in December 2017 spokeswoman Dana White had told Politico that Elizondo directed the program. Elizondo implicated Garry Reid in his 2021 complaint.
