Official position · S-040

The Pentagon acknowledged the “pranks” described by AARO (the Yankee Blue case), explaining that they had been excluded from the 2024 report because the investigation was not concluded, and committed to publishing a second volume of the historical report, expected for late 2025, with the findings on the inauthentic materials.

Funding, secrecy, Congress

What it denies and what it leaves open

It acknowledges, through a spokeswoman, the “pranks” described by AARO and defers the details to the second volume of the report, not yet published as of October 31, 2026; it publishes no documents and says nothing about Grusch's or Elizondo's sources.

Original words
The department is committed to releasing a second volume of its Historical Record Report
Who disputes it
Elizondo called the WSJ article “absurd” and attributed it to the usual DoD circles; Luna, Ross Coulthart and James Fox rejected it, Burlison said that Grusch had never heard of Yankee Blue, and in 2026 Mellon asked the WSJ to correct the articles.
