Pius XII

Pontiff; Grusch attributes to him an information channel to the United States

1944–1945 · Historical figures (1933–2007) · Historical figure

In June 2023 David Grusch claimed that Pius XII passed to the Americans the information about the craft recovered in Italy and, in an interview in November 2023, that a message from him reached President Roosevelt through the OSS. The Vatican element does not appear in Pinotti's account of the RS/33 documents and, according to Metabunk, was added to the story by William Brophy Jr. after 2004. In June 2024 the Vatican Apostolic Archive rejected the claim: Marco Grilli, secretary to the prefect, said he did not know where Grusch got the information.

Controversies
  • Denial by the Vatican Apostolic Archive (June 2024), reported by it.wikipedia, which cites Catholic News Service and a video report by Virgilio.
  • In June 2026 an anonymous Vatican source with access to the archives told NewsNation that he or she had found no references to the Magenta case nor any communications regarding a pope; NewsNation notes that this does not conclusively disprove the claim.
Today
Cited by Grusch in 2023. After the denial by the Vatican Apostolic Archive (June 2024), in June 2026 NewsNation reported that a search of the Vatican archives found no references to the case.
