Official position · S-045

The Pentagon presents the files published on PURSUE as unresolved cases, for which the government is unable to reach a definitive assessment, and leaves it to the public to draw its own conclusions; the Pentagon and the White House have said that the files do not provide confirmed evidence of extraterrestrial life.

Disclosure process

What it denies and what it leaves open

It neither confirms nor denies the origin of the cases: “unresolved” is not the same as “non-human.” It concerns the files published so far (seven releases as of October 23, 2026, about 478 files), none of which, according to the available summaries, documents retrievals of non-human craft or biological material.

Original words
unresolved cases, meaning the government is unable to make a definitive determination
Who disputes it
Burchett and Luna maintain that the government is still withholding a lot of information, and Mellon observes that data alone is not disclosure, because analysis is missing; for Kirkpatrick and Mick West the files contain nothing unexpected. On November 1, 2026, Kirkpatrick told Fox News Digital, regarding the FBI records on the black triangle, that the agents' credentials are not enough to validate the account (authority bias) and that "unresolved" usually means missing or insufficient data. He added that AARO had resolved many of the cases now published as unresolved and that Pentagon leadership allegedly asked for the resolution language to be removed, without saying when or who: the claim, from a former official and reported by a single outlet, is not documented. The Department of War told the outlet it would not provide comment or assessments on the files.
