Deferrals to a closed session that does not appear to have taken place
Weight: Substantial
- First version
- Nov 13, 2024 · At the hearing he defers to a closed session at least seven questions (whether he had been granted access to the retrieval programs, which contractors are involved, which programs escape congressional oversight, what the first reverse-engineering program was, who holds the material today, where Congress should look, how the programs for exploiting foreign material work); in the written answers of December 19, 2024, he says he is willing to provide details through secure channels, if authorized. - Second version
- May 2025 · He does not attend the closed-door briefing organized by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna's task force in the week of May 12, 2025, explaining that he is busy at the McMinnville UFO festival, scheduled since the previous fall, and that he is available for meetings scheduled with sufficient notice; he also disputes Luna's version of the April 29 postponement. uap-blog.com – Elizondo, Mellon and Grusch absent from the closed-door briefing (reports Elizondo's statement), May 23, 2025
- Analysis
- As of October 31, 2026, there is no record of any closed session or SCIF briefing in which he provided names, programs or custodians of the material; Luna made ironic remarks about the absence of the invited witnesses. Innocent explanations: the summons depends on Congress and, as he said at the hearing, the decision on what he may show rests with the “custodians” in the government and a classification authority; the April briefing was suspended for disputed reasons; since March 2026 a serious motorcycle accident has limited his activity; and a closed meeting may have taken place without leaving a public trace. The July 2026 presidential directive on the suspension of nondisclosure agreements directs testimony toward AARO and PURSUE, not toward Congress.
