The 1971 note by Australian defense intelligence on U.S. handling of UFOs
Scientific and Intelligence Aspects of the UFO Problem (minute paper, ref. 3092/2)
Department of Defence (Australia) – Joint Intelligence Organisation, Nuclear Branch (O. H. Turner) · May 27, 1971 · Australia · Memorandum
Original available
Official file from the third PURSUE series (CIA-UAP-019); every page bears the reference NAA A13693 3092/2/000. The text was read on the full transcript (19 pages) in the uapbrowser index, because war.gov blocked the automatic download (error 403). According to the G-066 entry, Grusch cited it on June 9, 2026 with the NAA reference, three days before the PURSUE publication: the file was already available at the Australian archives, contrary to Omega Click's “declassified after 55 years.”
- What it contains
- A 19-page internal note signed on May 27, 1971 by the head of the JIO's nuclear branch, with two annexes: a reconstruction of the official U.S. attitude toward UFOs (Projects Sign, Grudge and Blue Book, the Robertson Panel, the Condon Report) compiled from official reports and statements, and an analysis of alleged UFO “weapons systems” based on the data collected by Jacques Vallée with J. Allen Hynek. The author proposes that Australian investigations be moved from the air force to another department.
- What it shows and what it does not
- Confirms that the document cited by Grusch exists and that, as he maintains, it describes Blue Book as a tool for publicly discrediting UFOs after the Robertson Panel and speaks of a facade of ridicule; it also attributes to Ruppelt, Fournet, and Hillenkoetter the belief, expressed after leaving service, that the government knew UFOs were extraterrestrial. It is, however, the analysis of a single official, built on secondary sources and on deductions (almost certainly the CIA), not an official assessment by the Australian government nor proof of what U.S. agencies knew. The document also cites the September 1948 estimate on interplanetary origin, taking it from U.S. sources: Omega Click's claim that this estimate is known “only” thanks to this file is not borne out.
- How it came to light
- Held in the National Archives of Australia (NAA: A13693, 3092/2/000) and republished by the U.S. Department of War in the third PURSUE series (June 12, 2026, file CIA-UAP-019). Omega Click used it in its video of June 15, 2026.
