Document from the Pentagon's official FOIA reading room. The server now blocks automated requests, but the PDF had been read during the verification of the site's data, which confirmed its text and its signatory.
- What it contains
- Replying to Burchett, the DoD writes that “At no point did anyone from the Air Force file a complaint with IOD,” that is, with the Intelligence Oversight Directorate. It adds that the Air Force later reported that Grusch's information had been properly coordinated and that there had therefore been no unauthorized disclosure. The letter is signed by Mark D. Dupont, Principal Deputy and Senior Intelligence Oversight Official.
- What it shows and what it does not
- It contradicts, at least as far as the IOD is concerned, Grusch's account that the Air Force filed a report against him for unauthorized disclosure, and confirms that his public statements had been authorized. It does not rule out reports filed elsewhere.
- How it came to light
- Published on May 18, 2026 in the Pentagon's FOIA reading room, in a 40-page release linked to the FOIA lawsuit brought by Grusch (1:26-cv-00607).
